And the race is on!

Yesterday Morning:

Me (trying to avoid the huge whine fest of the day before): Muffin Man, if you are all dressed by the time I get out of the shower, we'll have time to watch t.v. together. Otherwise, no t.v.!
MM: Is it a race?
Me: Yes!
5 minutes later...I'm washing my dainty bits...

MM: Mommy! I'm all dressed!
Mr. Spock: He did it all by himself.

People, I'm here to tell you that he got all his clothes on correctly. And he even put on his own socks. He wore sandals with them, but we'll deal with fashion faux pas later.

So we did it again this morning (I told him he didn't have to wear socks). And again, he dressed himself correctly. Including remembering that today is Splash Day at school and he should wear his bathing trunks.

AND....He made his own cinnemon toast for breakfast this morning with only a little bit of help from me (removing the hot bread from the toaster, cutting the finished product into triangles).

My little boy. He's growing up.

Can we trade? The response I get from mine is, "Oh yeah? Well, I didn't want to watch TV. I don't like watching TV in the morning, Mama. Hey Mama, I don't like watching TV!"

Grrrr. Someday he's just going to noodge me to death...

I love watching them become independent but sometimes when they don't need you as much it hurts a little as well.

PS, I'm sure I'll get that response from him tomorrow when he suddenly realizes, "Hey! This isn't a race! This is my mom tricking me into being cooperative! Well, phooey on THAT."

APL, I miss AB too. I've got my fingers crossed that we can still do the zoo next weekend!

Are you kidding? How can he do all that himself? I am really impressed.

My mom used to trick me into cleaning my room by telling me "Don't you DARE clean your room!" and gullible child that I was, I would. I was so taken advantage of, sniff sniff.

Wow. What a big guy. And kudos to you for figuring out such a great way to get that cooperation going!

Congrats on the milestones!

Aw! You ought to give him a sticker or something, for "beating" Mommy in the "race!"

What a smart little guy -- not only to dress himself correctly, but also to remember the Swim Day thing!

As far as the Fashion Faux Pas, maybe he was just imitating Florida tourists? I see them with socks and sandals together ALL the time down there!

oooh, Mr. Spock, the Spelling Police!
And hey, yeah, Muffin Man is ultra-cool. Big deal it is, getting dressed. Maybe socks and sandals is a fashion STATEMENT rather than a faux pas. Huzzah!

I'm so impressed! My son always puts his underwear on backward. (That is, when he puts on *any* of his clothes himself, which is not often.) I would think that would be the easy part!

Go Muffin Man!

I'm very impressed by Muffin Man - he can come by and make me cinnamon toast anytime, even if he is wearing socks with his sandals! ;)

Hello and welcome, Jennifer!

I must say, pc, that he makes fabulous cinnamon toast. And YT, thank you for calling MS on his spelling police-ness.

my goodness, what a big boy he is becoming! I certainly look forward to seeing him again!

Impressive! But even more impressive is if socks with sandals was his only fashion faux-pas. When Anni started dressing herself, she usually threw together the most mismatched outfit and then threw another mismatched outfit on top of that one for good measure, and then carefully put on her underwear on top of the whole get-up. Ooooo. I have pictures, yes I do. We are going to have a great relationship as she enters teen-dom!

Hmph. Anyone can wear sandals and socks. Now, sandals and black socks... that's my boy!

Congrats! That's awesome. Sneaky, but awesome.

Not for nothing does Mr. Spock call me an evil little gnome.
