As seen everywhere!!!

Go to MusicOutfitters, and in the Search box enter the year of your high school graduation. You can then click on a link to the top songs from that year. Then bold the songs you like, underline your favorite, strike out the ones you hate, and leave untouched the ones you don't remember or don't care about.

1987 was way better than 1988. If I had graduated a year earlier, I wouldn't have had to make up my own damn meme!

I liked a ton of these songs! Funny, though, because I barely knew any of the songs from my graduation year.

I can't figure out how to cross things out on blogger?

If it makes you feel any better, I'd also have to confess to that George Michael song - and I was 25 then, which makes it much more damning, no?

Hey, I don't know how to cross things out, either. How do you do it?

I agree with most of your choices, but since I was 12 in '87, I tended more toward the pop-py stuff- Control by Janet Jackson for instance- She was my friggin' hero then! I know every word to that song.

A few I've never heard of- Beethovan's Wig? Was he the precursor to Falco and Rock Me Amadeus?

APL - I missed that one, bolding it right now.

Lucinda - Beethovan's Wig is an album (actually two now) with silly lyrics set to classical music. Lyrics to Franz Liszt the Famous Pianist are here

And Lucinda and HL - you can cross things out by using the strike /strike commands (I looked it up this morning)

1990 blew, so I just live through your Meme.

So many blasts from the past, and I completely agree with most of your choices...But you crossed out Starships's Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now?! I LOVED that song ;)

Jefferson Airplane was a band. Starship was the pale ghost of a band.

You didn't bold Brilliant Disguise?? Ah, The Boss, I still pine for you.

I agree with Phantom--'87 is way better than '88.

But I still can't strikethru with blogger--what the hell are strike commands??

'87 may have been way better than '88 but they were both way, way, way better than '89. The best song on my list was "Stand," which ok I love R.E.M. but that's not even one of their middling-best songs, might be one of their worst.

OK, to strike out something, you have to enter the strike and end-strike commands around the words you want struck through. In other words, If you want Starship to be struck through, then your post should look like this:

<Starship>

(I hope that works correctly--I'm having to use the HTML entity reference codes to get the less-than and greater-than signs.)

OK, scratch my example--I messed something up. I'll try again:

<strike>Starship</strike>

Scrivener said...

Yes, that's correct. If you copy that line in the comment above and paste it into your post entry page and then hit publish, you'll get the word Starship with a line drawn through the middle of it.

I count 5 or 6 songs on your list that are actually seriously good songs, not just ok given the context or something. There was not a single truly good song on my entire list.

There was an original of "Mony Mony"? (Haha -- my ignorance is showing.) Yeah, '87 was a good year. My own '89 didn't have as many good ones, to be sure. I'm still recovering from finding a number of bloggers in this community who are crossing out Fleetwood Mac! (Gasp!)

Browsing through these lists, I feel as though I need to go make a huge CD buy! I'm freakishly nostalgic for so many of these songs!

Welcome concretegodmother!!!

Yeah, Fleetwood Mac wrote some great songs, but unfortunately Stevie Nicks' voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

Sigh.

Everyone has better songs than me. You had a good year!!!

You had Duran Duran... that almost makes up for the Cutting Crew and Whitney Houston songs.
