On my way...

...to becoming a Psychology major. I've got my sign-off from the Psych. Dept., now I need to get one from English Lit. then I hand the change form in to the Registrar's office.

I'm feeling...odd...about this. My self-conception for years - heck my blog's name! - is that of a reader, a Lit. major. Even for those two decades when I was between schools, I never questioned that if I ever graduated, it would be with a degree in English Lit.

But I'm feeling really excited about the decision. It feels right. It feels good.

I knew I had to change when I was looking at the Fall catalog and most of the classes that really interested me were psychology classes. Many more of them grabbed my attention than the English classes (though I am taking one that really got me - Historical Criticism of Children's Literature. Doesn't that sound yummy?). And I admitted to myself that the same thing had happened for the Summer schedule as well.

And another plus is it won't take me any longer to graduate.

I can't wait for the Summer session to start! Developmental Psychology, here I come!

That's fantastic, Liz. I always think it's important to do what grabs you most. I'm not surprised you are excited...Enjoy!

I nearly took my first degree in English Lit (because it was my favourite subject all through school), but eventually decided to take Law instead. I figured that I'd always have literature in my life anytime I wanted it anyway, which wouldn't necessarily be the case with Law (or in your case Psych). So it's really a win-win situation. :)

Oh, congratulations!! That's great to have done it and feel so right about it. (I want to hear about the History of Criticism of Children's Lit class, though.)

Good for you for following what interests you the most.

I think it's win-win, too. English will always be there for you to enjoy. And I'm glad that psych won out over social work. Mazel tov!

I decided against Social Work because a) the Psych courses really looked much more interesting and b) it would take me at least 2 semesters more to get my Bachelors, which cancels out the benefit of getting a BSW for advanced standing in the MSW program.

I'm still probably headed for an MSW, but I'm going to have more enjoyable undergraduate experience than as a BSW.

I'm now officially going for a BA in Psych. If I can get enough credits within my time frame, I'll opt for a BS.

This is so cool.

Wow. I'm very impressed.

Good luck with your courses. I think you've done a smart thing by focusing on what interests you now rather than what you think you were (does that make sense?). Plus, your love of reading is obviously a constant, so that will hold you in good stead.

I have a psych minor and loved all the classes. (Also? The psychology professors are the most interesting and messed up people on the entire campus and totally the most fun to hang out with.)

AND there are more than a few connections between Lit and Psychology - just look at our buddy Reginald Hill.

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy it and remain this excited until the day you graduate.

So exciting! I think psych is great, in fact, it is one of the few majors I sometimes wish I'd explored! Hurray for you!
