Just a smidge cranky

Remember this post? Well, the teacher is giving folks an opportunity to make up their grade with added work on their final projects. I wouldn't mind if she'd just let people drop their worst exam grade or required them to write short paragraphs on the right answers but this is very amorphous. It feels unfair. How much work is she going to consider enough? And will it make mine look worse if I don't do the added work? It's not like the test was that hard -- pick the crunchiest granola answer and you're pretty safe. Okay, okay, I know this is sour grapes...

I like my teacher, btw, I think she's fun and enthusiastic. She's also knowledgeable and really does want the class to learn these concepts.

No one in my class knows I'm the one who busted the curve. When asked by one what my grade was, I said, "Let's not go there. That exam is over and I'm thinking about what we have to do next."
"Wow," she said. "Did you fail it?"
"I'm not going to discuss my grade. Seriously."

Plus, the advent of the red tide is making me take this more personally than I should. And it's rainywindythunderlighteninghailing outside.

Signed, Cranky McCrankerson.

I always hated when people asked what my grades (or SAT scores or LSAT scores) were! None of your beeswax!

Good for you for not telling others what your grade was!

I have been kind of cranky all day too. Here's hoping we feel better tomorrow!

Good for you for not telling your grade. It really isn't anyone's business. Congrats on busting the curve!

The red tide not only came back after almost 2 years but I had it twice within a 2 week period.

Wow, I sort of thought you metaphorically futzed with the curve. I never use curves when I grade (I think they are unfair). Anyway, glad you got around telling people your grade. That can be awkward. It seems like a more reasonable way for this teacher to deal with things is to scarp the curve, but whatever.

Hmm, I don't use the curve and never have - so I'm unsure of the real significance except to say I know you are SMRT!

I guess I need to ensure my next workplace doesn't demand the use of the curve...

Gee...it would be way less work just to adjust the lower curve than to have people do all that more work (which is what I have sometimes done when assignments have panned out with lower grades than I anticipated--I don't use a strict curve, but I am often in the position of having to figure out how to convert students' answers on X number of questions into letter grades).

I'm impressed with your grace under pressure with those answers to your fellow students!

Curves are silly.

But if they must exist, I am glad you busted one!
