He's serious

(screamed while sobbing in a corner of the examining room)

Mommy! Daddy! You're bad! I told you I didn't want a flu shot! I told you NO THANK YOU! I said please! I'M NOT GIVING YOU ANY OF MY CANDY!

I did not laugh out loud. I did NOT laugh out loud.

Poor little guy. He *said* "please" and "no, thank you!"

Tell him I'm sending him virtual stickers, and I'm not wanting a flu shot, either. (The school system decided to give them all to us for free this year (hooray! Usually, we have to pay $20 for them) and I'm not really looking forward to it myself.)

Is it OK if we laugh out loud? He is teh cute!!

CG went to sleep tonight sobbing about tomorrow's flu shot, and when I pointed out that for the past two years, she hasn't cried at her flu shot (and has, in fact, walked around afterwards saying "I got a flu shot and I didn't even cry!" to random strangers), she said, "But I'm older now." Um, yes.

I'm a parent ... do you really find that flu shots are effective? We've never given our 2 kids (combined age = 13) flu shots and they have never had the flu. Likewise I have never, ever had the flu and I've had the actual "F-L-U" maybe once in my lifetime. Just curious. Thanks.

Yes, I think they are effective. I used to get the flu every year, which would exacerbate my asthma. I haven't gotten it since I started getting shots every year. My son also has a history of mild asthma (started after he got pneumonia at 4 months) and so I get him the shots as well.

YMMV, of course.

Personally, I don't fool with anything that killed over 40 million people (and possibly as many as 100 million) in 1918.

Our youngest had RSV. Again he's never had a problem with flu. I should amend my comment to say "I've never had the flu SHOT." For the same reason as your last comment -- the 1918 influenza is very different from the 3-4 flu viruses fluttering around these days. Peace.

Aww, poor little guy.

Are you feeling better from your sinus thing?

Liz Miller said...

Yes, PK, I am feeling MUCH better, thanks!!!

KLee, I gave him some real stickers and said they were from you.

And laugh out loud all you want to!!!

Good thing it's OK for us to laugh out loud, because I couldn't help it!

J. fought it a lot a couple years ago, but now he just fretted about it some (actually hid behind a chair when it was his turn) but then was fine once he had it. So hopefully MM will be easier about it next year or the year after.

Wilder has mild asthma and our pediatrician e-mails us the second the flu vaccine arrives in her office. She's not messing around, and we figure, there's no reason for us to mess around, either. I have no strong opinions about the shot either way, but because I have no strong opinions, I figure I'm going to err on the side of yes.

This year, our pediatrician's office got 30 doses of Flumist. The pediatrician had me take the kids out of school early last Thursday so we could sneak 'em in to snag three of those doses. I LOVE OUR PEDIATRICIAN. (Even if she is a 5'10" size-4 beauty straight out of Grey's Anatomy central casting.)

Alas that Wilder still had to get his HepA and Chicken Pox booster shots. They had been out of stock in August when he had his yearly check-up.... (The girls had theirs at the end of July.)
