Did you hear the one about the two male flightless water fowl? UPDATED

Yeah. Guess which county I live in? We're that silly place that got itself ridiculed on The View.

So a whole group of right-minded folks are going to dress up in black-and-white (penguins! Get it?) and go to protest at the school board meeting tonight.

I wish I could be there, but MS will represent for the Mystery Household. They won't have any choice but to pay attention to him, too. Since, you know, all the smilingsmilingsmiling gives him power of the purse over the school board.

UPDATE: Here's a link to an article about the meeting which includes some of MS's comments.

how incredibly silly.

i suppose these folks would disapprove of my family. our blind male cat [the duke of earl] not only likes the enemy species [dogs], but he is the World's Best Foster Uncle to the kittens we have fostered. we ended up adopting the last 2 feral kittens; young spotty believes that earl is his mommy.

I was thinking "Oh dear god" most of the way through the post article. Then I got to the last 2 paragraphs and LAUGHED.

The Math Curse book? Totally innocent. We just read it this month -- very silly and very mathy and altogether great. Definitely check it out! A little girl gets "infected" with math thoughts when her teacher says "math is everywhere" and her whole life turns into math problems.

Unbelievable how ridiculous people can be.

I think, deep down, they must be scared.

I'm just thankful that you let my scary self haunt your comment boxes, Liz.

According to what I hear, the turnout was great. And there was even a 9-yo son of two women there with a prepared statement. And the superintendent made another ass of himself.

If my guy's statement makes it into the papers I'll link to it tomorrow.

Susan, even if it weren't for the whole first amendment thing, we'd be fighting this shit just because we know and love your family and that of my childhood friend who has twins with her girlfriend. And that of my 5th grade teacher who has a son with her spouse. And so on and so on.

I so need to buy a copy of that book. At full price in a bookstore.

People are so nuts.

Firstly - so sad that first amendment rights are disregarded so easily.

Secondly - book is based on a TRUE story, not a nuanced, agenda-pushing statement.

Thirdly - even if it was only a blatant attempt at tolerance :gasp: - your kid doesn't HAVE to read it, shocker.

Wow...and to the GLBT crowd in this county - I'm so sorry you have neighbors like that, but you've got Liz and MS!
