More MM

  • He's become fond of a certain singer who was embarrassed on national tv recently. I, getting sick of hunting for her music on the radio for him, bought him her CD and we are listening to tracks 3 and 6 ad nauseam. When I was his age, I was obsessed with The Monkees, and wished my name were Valleri, so I now owe my mom an apology.
  • It turns out he had homework this weekend (work he hadn't finished last week) and didn't do it. He did inherit my genes after all.
  • He's gotten blase about my volunteering in his class, and did the eyeroll at me when I kissed him goodbye. Well, excuuuuuuse me, Mr. ClungToMeLikeABabyChimpWhenILeftLastWeek.
  • He opted to bring his lunch today, which would have been fine if we'd discussed it yesterday MORNING instead of yesterday evening. In his bag, 2 hard-boiled eggs, some bread-and-butter, some Halloween candy (yeah, yeah), a juice pouch, and some grapes for snack. Not bad as it goes, but it's a darned good thing we had eggs in the house.
  • He's a great big ham and I love him to pieces.

Good thing he discussed lunch with you yesterday evening instead of this morning! I'm just saying. :)
I've taken to doing the goodbye kiss before we leave the house - at the school is not so acceptable but at home is fine.
"You Belong to Me" is a favorite of the kiddo's. Could've been a lot worse than that singer . . .

I had the "what's for lunch?" moment this morning myself . . . not her fault, they don't sell lunch at school. Good thing there were hot dogs in the freezer.

I think you and I should start a support group for parents of love song fans. The first time through I thought she said her love was "typical" and I thought, how refreshingly honest. Then I figured it out.

I'm glad you are enjoying MM so much!

At first I thought you meant the singer who embarassed her, and I became alarmed. Then I figured it out. Phew.

I'm glad you and MM are having such good times together, and I'll bet you're looking forward to the end of campaigning for a while, too.

My mom wanted to change her name to Yoko.

I was so tired this morning that I threw a fruit by the foot (something I have never bought but Teh Costco coupon suckered me) and pudding. At least I packed an apple for snack.

Sorry he is trying to pull away. I'm trying to convince myself that the girls will be the only ones to go through this.

Madeleine, I hate that line for a different reason, "This love is difficult but it's for re-al".

Wouldn't it have scanned better if she'd sing it, "This love is difficult, but it's the real deal."

Re: the love being difficult, the song makes it sound like the only bar to the relationship is her family, so the "difficult" thing doesn't bother me so much.
Esp. since she has an anti-battering song later.

For sure, the re-al part scans badly.

What makes me laugh about word "difficult" is the 17-year-old self absorption of it all. I can remember feeling that way, too, at the time. But it makes me laugh now.

On the upside there's lots of culture in that song! As we talked I discovered that SG knows the whole R&J story (she pointed out that the song's ending is happier). And then I got to tell her about the Scarlet Letter. Holy mixed metaphors, Batman!

I thought she meant that the song's Juliette got pregnant.

Oooooooooh. I'm pretty dense about this literary analysis stuff. I was trying to figure out what the heck the Scarlet Letter had to do with it all. Sigh.

The second video you posted I hadn't seen or heard, but I like the cross between Cinderella, the Ugly Duckling, and the Archie/Veronica/Betty love triangle. (Archie comics are VERY big with SG and her friends. SG spent her last dollar to order the complete set of the current "Who will Archie marry?" story line.)
