Dammit, Maine!

How can civil rights be something that can be put up for a vote?

I was so sad when I woke up this morning and saw the bad news. I thought for sure this would be the one. It angers me to no end that there is such a fight over something that shouldn't even be an issue.

Your question sums it all up - so so disappointing.

Absolutely, one hundred percent agree.

D.C. may be the next to recognize this civil right, and I believe there won't be a referendum because the Council ruled that it would violate the city's antidiscrimination laws.

The one thing that keeps me from completely losing my shit is the knowledge that within 15 years, marriage equality will be a fact all over the country. It's a long time to wait, but it will happen. I know it.

Yep, time is on our side, but the waiting hurts like hell. (Lesbian Dad has an awesome post up today, though. quoting MOlly Ivins.)

Here's an idea...how about we remove civil government from the marriage business entirely? Why should the state involve itself in something as intimate and personal as marriage?

You know what, Josh? That's an idea I can get behind.
