I am The Meanest Mommy In The World (tm)

Because I wouldn't let my dawdling son take his DS with him for after-school today.

Because we were late.

Because I had already said, "If I have to tell you one more time to hurry and get dressed, you will be sad."

And lo, he was sad. Point made. I hope.

Sounds like you warned him. That makes you a good mommy!

And yet, somehow, the world kept on spinning. A boy in sadness is a temporary thing.

I go through this every morning with Frances. Not the DS, but the dawdlnig, and the cranking, and the sad.

So I think that makes me meaner than you.

i used to play a character called "the meanest mommy in the world." used a growling voice; announced that i was the meanest mommy in the world; and ordered the kids, "whatever you do, DON'T [insert thing you want them to do]!" maybe it was just my kids, but it cracked them up, and they scrambled to do the thing that needed doing.

never tried this for mornings, though. worked OK for bathtimes and toy pickups.

Nah. Excellent mothering. Warning, consequences, all the things that are supposed to work. I think just letting him do exactly as he liked all the time would be meaner. This mean mummy takes scissors away from the toddler and makes him scream.
