A Perfect Day for Banana Cake

Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting, all from scratch.

Mr. Spock turned 53 last week, so this past weekend I made (at his request) a Banana Cake with Cream Cheese frosting. Recipe from the Fanny Farmer Baking Book.

Banana cake, sliced

I had some for breakfast this morning. What? It's fruit!

(Extra credit for the first person to say where the title comes from. Mr. Spock is not eligible for this credit).

I bet it's from Winnie the Pooh. But I could be wrong. Just sounds like something from there. Am wishing for a virtual slice of Banana Cake! It looks delicious!

p.s. Happy Birthday to your hubby.

It was delicious.

Winnie the Pooh is NOT the answer, but I like the way you think!

That would be an allusion to J.D. Salinger's _A Perfect Day for Bananafish_ -- and I must say that the outcome to this post seems much more pleasant than the outcome to that story.

(which is not to say I dislike it, or Salinger. Or banana cake. I am fond of all three.)

Dingdingding! We have a winner! And this cake was a MUCH happier ending.

oh yum. I have not had that in forever. I detest bananas, but I *love* banana cake, and nothing can be bad that has cream cheese icing. I may have to make one now.

Banana cake? I've never heard of it before. I have friends who make banana bread, and it's delicious. I'm guessing banana cake would be even better.

I came in to say Salinger but was beaten to it - happy birthday to Mister Spock!

Is banana cake sweeter than banana bread, or otherwise different in texture? Sounds delicious, especially with that frosting. Yum.
