Oh, I should have known Cornelli. I kept thinking it sounded familiar. I love Spyri's less-well-known books.

I know it . . . it's Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
I'm pretty sure I've read at least a couple of the others, too, but have to think about them. Saw the answer to #1 already.

#3 is a book I mentioned over at Library Mom. It's by Noel Streatfeild and, sadly, it's out of print.
#4 is a wonderful kickass book. Magic. War. Horses. Female empowerment. And it looks like it just came back into print.

Wow, I actually got #1 right off the bat! What a nifty idea! Thsi doesn't remind me so much of reading the books as a child as it does reading my mom's classroom books (she was an ESL teacher) whenever I flew out to visit her, since I always ran out of reading material by the time my flight ended. Thanks, Liz, for bringing back some great memories, even if they weren't the ones you might have imagined!
You know what would be a great "April Fools"-type idea in this theme? The first sentence from a bunch of sappy romance novels!

I am reduced to cheating. Google says there are actually two books that start with #4. But one involves a car accident and the other involves magic, and I think you mean the magical one, so now I will request it from the library!
