Braces

MM has braces. Did I tell you? He's had his upper ones on since January, lower ones went on yesterday. He's being a total trooper about it. Excellent flossing technique.

This may or may not have anything to do with the fact that I decided to cook a lamb stew last night, where the lamb was tender and the vegetables were falling apart. The whole thing was very tasty and easy on a sore jaw. He's got leftovers in his lunchbox today, too.

Bringing lunch

So, the new office building doth not have a cafeteria, neither doth it have any kind of food purveyor within a 10 minute walk. It does have a snack machine in a very creepy machine room near the elevators in the lobby. How creepy? I expect someone to smash through the door with an axe anytime I'm in there. That's how creepy.

So! I've been bringing food. I filled up a jar with snacky items and invited people to share. I've been bringing healthy lunches and leftovers and fruit.

Today it was leftover tempura and sushi from last night's dinner.

Yesterday it was wee baby artichokes and barbeque chicken.

What have you been eating for lunch?

Resolution report

I haven't done one of these in a while, but I thought I'd tell you what Muffin Man brought for lunch today.

Inspired by last night's taco dinner, at which he complained that there was not enough guacamole (a previously disdained food), he asked if he could bring guacamole and chips for lunch. Who am I to turn down a request for vegetables?

So, Mr. Spock mixed the spices while I smooshed the avocado. MM's lunch bag contained guacamole, fritos, juice, and a z-bar for snack.

My boy's palate is expanding. Woot!

Starting the New Year off right

New Year's day was spent getting some hardware sorting boxes from BigBoxHardwareStore (and a rug to cover the speaker cables in the living room, because I was sick of tripping over them), and then helping with Muffin Man with the sorting of the pieces of his brand new Lego Mindstorms NXT set.

Monday, we rearranged the play room, so that he could have a work bench upon which to build a robot to rule the world (Mwahahahahaha!)

Pictured: Most of MM's Legos. There are more scattered throughout the house, but this is the bulk of 'em. That blue bag on the workbench is filled with Minifigs.

Pictured: Just a few of what the bag contains.

Also under the tree this year were a subscription to Lego Master Builder Academy (new kit in the mail every other month) and the Lego Ideas Book .

The inspiration for my New Year's Resolution

I haven't done much in terms of sending MM with a packed lunch this school year, but last year I sent him with lunch at least three times a week between January and then end of the school year.

Here's a video by Mrs. Q, from Fed Up With Lunch, who ate the school lunch every day for a calendar year, and took pictures.

Mushrooms chopped fine

Onions chopped finer. So fine that you can not see them among the tomatoes, sweet Italian sausage, basil, and oregano in the spaghetti sauce. I challenge you to find them and pick them out.

Hahahahahahaha!!!

I'm on a roll!

Sent lunch every day, and brought my own today too!

MM seems to be enjoying it, possibly because I'm using impossibly small containers in bright colors. Also, perhaps because I send fun desserts.

We now have two wide-mouth Thermos-type containers and some wee bitty Rubbermaid containers. As well as the containers from my own Laptop Lunchbox.

I switch up which lunch box I send (which means sometimes he gets mine).

Resolution update

7 lunches in a row, so far.

Parts of tomorrow's lunch are already prepared. I'm loving this resolution, and so is MM.

Resolution report

I sent him with lunch every day this week. Feeling very proud of myself. Now, if only I can keep it up!

My resolution was for at least 3x a week, but he asked me to pack his lunch for yesterday and today. I'm feeling like that's a big win.
