And all Virginians, this means you...then
Go and vote.
I took Muffin Man to the polls with me this morning and we voted for Kaine, Poisson, Byrne, and Deeds. Also, we voted Yes on all the bond issues.
MM was fascinated by the cool scan-tron ballot. And he loved getting a sticker for watching mommy exercise her franchise.
If you are able to vote (registered, and legally of age) and don't go, then I say to you "PTHHHHHP!" There are people all over the world fighting and dying for a right that you are throwing away. Here in the US there are millions of people who are either disenfranchised or are facing huge hurdles to be able to vote. So get off your duff and act like a citizen.
Don't like any of the candidates? Aren't up on the issues? That's no excuse. Write in for someone who doesn't make you puke. Educate yourself.

I voted before J. woke up, so he didn't get a sticker. It's on my coat, and I didn't think to give it to him. But everyone on the Metro will see it and be reminded to go vote! Then I'll give it to him tonight.
I have no idea who Poisson is (not in my district, obviously), but that explains the fish comment on your blog from a day or two ago.
You are so right. And Muffin Man, watching you vote, will learn that it is important, an honor, and a great responsibility.
Well said! No elections in my state this time around though...
Taking G to vote later (with a bag full of Halloween candy for the poll workers).
I've been taking her since she was born (and in utero, too) and she LOVES it. In fact, she can't wait until she's old enough to vote.
Remember Anthony Michael Hall's character in "Breakfast Club" where he alters his ID so his age is 68? So he can vote? Yup, that's going to be G.
EVERYONE VOTE!
Gosh, Liz, I'd almost given up on you!
Then I checked back in and discovered I'd missed like the last 7 posts!
But I'm all caught up now.
Muffin Man is truly adorable in so many many ways and I'm glad you're back!
Yay for you! We had about a 50% turnout. Not bad, but still kind of sad. No major races or questions, though.
Very well said. I love to take Kid L with me to vote. I think it is important for kids to realize how special and important our right to vote truly is.
