Angry Pregnant Lawyer, Angry Boy (who's really not an angry boy at all. He's so delicious, I could just eat him up, toes and all), Muffin Man and I went to the National Zoo yesterday morning. We had a great time walking around, up hills and down, looking at all the animals we could see. Many of them were sleeping, including a panda bear - all stretched out on its back, scratching its tummy occasionally.
Muffin Man's favorite was the hippo. "The little one or the big one?" I asked. "THE BIG ONE!!!" he shouted. The little one, a pygmy hippo, could have fit in the big one's mouth.
I'm pretty sure that AB's favorite was the river otter. He shrieked with joy everytime it swam near him.
My favorites were the flamingos, so beautifully pink! It's amazing to see something that vibrantly pink occur in nature. Muffin Man wanted to see them play with a yo-yo*.
We also saw a capybara (the world's largest rodent). Those of you who are fans of The Tick may remember that he adopted a capybara, mistaking it for a dog. But really, what they look like is a very, very large hamster -- about 3 feet long and two feet high. It takes a python all of 5 months to digest one.
After the zoo we went out for lunch and APL and I shared two very yummy dishes, a sure sign, we agreed, that we could stay friends with each other. After all, how can you be friends with someone who won't trade bites?
We both kicked ourselves for forgetting to bring cameras (doh!)
And I swear, the parking karma we had was extraordinary. We got a spot right next to the entrance across from the elephants, and at the restaurant we got a spot right near the door. It was amazing.
*You know, from the bit in Fantasia 2000. What do you mean you haven't seen it? Honestly, people!

If I ever change careers, I want to be the person who watches pythons for five months to figure out how long it takes them to digest a capybara.
Aw, I'm so jealous. I wanna go to the zoo with Muffin Man and Angry Boy, too!
Sounds like a great weekend outing. I am so jealous I want to meet everyone of you people like right now! But the heat and the pregnant feet and blah blah blah I haven't been able to do anything!
I have a real fondness for hippos. I don't know if you guys have it too (or if it is canadian) but there's a commercial about "house hippos" who are tiny and hide in nooks and crannies around the house ans steal little bits of fabric and wool to make their nests. They are SOOOO cute! And, er, not real. The commercial is a public info about how things can look real but we need to use our critical thinking to understand what we see on TV. My sister and I always cry out "oohhh, I want a house hippo@" when we see the commercial.
And yes, I do mean now - not when we were kids.
I [heart] hippos!
Sounds like a great outing!
I heart Muffin Man AND Angry Boy.
You make me want to go to the zoo asap! I am so jealous of the outings with APL and AB!!!
