What Kind of Food Am I?

Adding to our nightly ritual is a little routine (during the back-pat phase) called, "tell me all the foods I am."
Me: "Are you my little pumpkin?"
MM: "No." (laughing after each no.)
Me: "Are you my little strawberry?" (really, he should be considering how many of them he eats)
MM: "No."
Me: "Are you my little kumquat?" (don't you love the word "kumquat"?)
MM: "No."
Me: " Are you my little nectarine?"
MM: "No."
This goes on for a while, with him throwing out suggestions for what kind of food he is until finally he says, "That's enough, Mommy."
Me: "Are you my Big [Muffin Man's Real Name] Boy?"
MM: "YES!"

Then we do the whole kissing, hugging, "Night-night" thing and he goes to sleep. When it goes on too long, I have to really cudgel my brains to come up with foods. Often, I suggest pastries. I've actually been reduced to asking if he's a lobster or a veal scallopini. Hey! You've gotta be creative!

We play a related food game in our house called "Toddler Toe Buffet," in which, if the boys are barefoot, I grab them and pretend to eat their toes, asking "What's on the Toddler Toe Buffet today?" Then I try to come up with food that starts with "T" and incorporate toddler toes into it. Example - "Teriyaki Toddler Toes." I always run out too. And yes, I love the word "kumquat". Also "pomegranate". You guys are too cute.

I can't go for the toes -- the Offspring has sweaty feet, and they always slip right out of my grasp. Darn her! We have the habit of calling her "Monkey", and every time we see a monkey on TV, we yell out. "Hey! There you are!" Or, "Is that Cousin Mike?" Or, "Hey! How did *you* get on TV?"

We don't do foods. I guess that's because we'd start naming all these foods, and then we'd end up in the kitchen at dark thirty, looking for a snack. I'm so suggestible. (Did someone say "cake"?)

Oh, how cute is that? It's just absolutely adorable, she says, answering her own question. ;-)
